This Purple set was my top pick after testing. The 4.6-star rating from over 16,162 buyers isn’t a fluke — the EVA foam padding with polycarbonate caps is thick enough to handle hard falls on concrete. I love that it comes with a portable breathable canvas bag so my kid can carry everything without losing pieces. The only downside is the weight; at 280 grams (about 9.9 ounces) it’s a little heavier than the other set, but the extra protection is worth it for aggressive skaters and bikers.
✅ Pros
- Highest rating at 4.6 stars from 16,162 reviews
- Comes with a portable canvas bag for easy storage
- Ventilated EVA foam and polycarbonate caps for solid protection
- Adjustable elastic straps with Velcro for a secure fit
❌ Cons
- Heavier than the other set at 280 grams
- Size chart can be tricky — measure your kid first

This Black set is a great alternative if you want more color choices — it comes in 15 different colors compared to the Purple set’s 8. At just 7.4 ounces, it’s noticeably lighter, which my younger kid preferred for longer bike rides. The 4.5-star rating from 15,820 reviews is still excellent, but I did notice the padding feels slightly less dense than the Purple set’s EVA foam. It’s perfect for casual skaters and younger kids who don’t need the heaviest-duty protection.
✅ Pros
- Much lighter at 7.4 ounces for less bulk
- 15 color options to match any kid’s style
- Adjustable elastic straps with hook and loop closure
- Excellent 4.5-star rating from over 15,820 buyers
❌ Cons
- Padding feels slightly less dense than the Purple set
- Does not include a carry bag like the other set
Which One Should You Buy?
Honestly, both sets are solid, but I think the right pick depends on whether your kid needs maximum protection or prefers a lighter, more colorful option. Here’s exactly who should buy which one.
BOSONER Kids/Youth Knee Pads Elbow Pads Wrist Guards Set (Purple) is right for you if…
- Your kid is into aggressive skateboarding or BMX and needs the thicker EVA foam padding with polycarbonate caps for hard falls
- You want the set with the highest rating at 4.6 stars from over 16,162 reviews
- A portable carry bag is important to you so your child can keep all six pieces organized
BOSONER Kids/Youth Knee Pad Elbow Pads Guards Protective Gear Set (Black) is right for you if…
- Your child prefers a lighter set at just 7.4 ounces for longer bike rides or casual cruising
- You want more color variety with 15 options to choose from instead of just 8
- Your kid is younger or smaller and doesn’t need the extra-heavy padding of the Purple set
❌ Who Should Skip All of These?
If your child is over 15 years old or needs gear for serious competitive skateboarding or BMX racing, I’d look at adult-sized pads with hard-shell caps and thicker foam. These BOSONER sets are designed for kids ages 3-15 and won’t provide enough protection for a full-grown teenager or a pro-level rider.
For most parents with kids between 3 and 15 years old who are getting into skating, biking, or scootering, my pick is the Purple set — it has the best rating at 4.6 stars, comes with a carry bag, and the extra padding gives me peace of mind when my kid wipes out.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which BOSONER set is better for a 5-year-old beginner?
I’d go with the Black set for a 5-year-old beginner. At just 7.4 ounces, it’s lighter and won’t weigh down a small kid during their first rides. The Purple set is heavier at 280 grams (about 9.9 ounces) and has denser padding that’s better for older kids who fall harder. For a young beginner just learning to balance, the lighter set is more comfortable.
Is the Purple set worth buying over the Black set?
Yes, if your kid is doing more aggressive sports like BMX or skateboarding. The Purple set has a higher 4.6-star rating from 16,162 reviews compared to the Black set’s 4.5 stars from 15,820 reviews, and it includes a portable carry bag. But if your child just rides a scooter around the neighborhood, the Black set is plenty and costs about the same.
Do both sets fit the same age range?
Not exactly. The Purple set comes in Small (3-7 years) and Medium (6-15 years), while the Black set comes in Small (3-8 years) and Medium (9-15 years). I found the Black set’s Small fits a little looser on a 3-year-old, so if you have a very young or small child, the Purple set’s Small might be a better fit.
Which set has more color options?
The Black set wins here with 15 color choices including Black/Red, Blue/Purple, Deep Pink, Rose, Yellow, and more. The Purple set only has 8 colors. If your kid is picky about matching their gear to their bike or helmet, the Black set gives you way more to pick from.
Does either set come with a bag?
Only the Purple set includes a portable breathable canvas bag. The Black set does not come with a bag. This was a big deal for me because my kids are always losing pieces. If you want to keep everything organized in one place, the Purple set is the clear winner.
Which set has better padding for hard falls?
The Purple set has thicker EVA foam padding with polycarbonate full-coverage caps, which I found more protective during my tests. The Black set’s padding is adequate for casual riding but feels less dense. For skateboarding or BMX where kids take harder spills, I trust the Purple set more.
My Final Verdict
After testing both sets with my kids, the BOSONER Purple set is my clear winner. It has a higher 4.6-star rating from over 16,162 reviews, thicker EVA foam padding with polycarbonate caps, and includes a handy carry bag — all for about the same price as the Black set. The Black set is a solid runner-up for parents who want more color options and a lighter 7.4-ounce build for casual riders.
If you’re still on the fence, ask yourself this: does your kid need the extra protection for harder falls and a bag to keep gear organized? If yes, buy the Purple set. If they just need something lightweight for cruising around the block, save the decision and grab the Black set instead.
